Biblically speaking, there are adults and children.  Young men and young women are mentioned, and in context they are considered as immature, but maturing, adults. 

Therefore, the role of a teenager in his/ her family is considered to be very much like that of the roles for a man or a woman: as an ‘adult in training’.
