discipleship/ it starts at home…
Hope is committed to discipleship – making Christians and teaching them Christ’s commands. We also are committed to making disciples in our own homes, and that it’s the primary responsibility for a man with children to make disciples of them, teaching them the commandments they are to obey, and then walking them through the process of learning to obey those commands (Deut. 6:6,7; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:4). We find additional support for this in combining three passages…
1) Mt. 28:19,20: the Great Commission’s ‘make
disciples and teach them to obey’
2) Acts 1:8: concept of moving from ‘home base’
outward to the ends of the earth.
3) Luke 10:25-37: the story of the good Samaritan
(which Jesus shares immediately after the Great
Commandments, to point out our ‘neighbor’ is
the one we find in our pathway needing help that
we can give). We are responsible to minister to
all in our path – in and out of our household –
and we must remember that our ‘closest’
neighbors are those in our own house!
